Shout Out to LC

Although a Christmas carol proclaims that “It’s the most wonderful time of the year…” I have to disagree. At Lynchburg College I’m quite sure that April is the most wonderful time of the year, and to prove my point I’ve come up with my “My Top Ten Reasons to Give a Shout Out to LC in April.”

10. The campus is extraordinarily beautiful, thanks in large part to Mother Nature and the Physical Plant grounds crew working in concert with each other (with apologies to allergy sufferers for whom April brings on all manner of congestion and sinus irritation).

9.  Students raise thousands of dollars, don outrageous costumes, sell creative wares, and walk all night long to heighten awareness of cancer and to fight the disease at the annual Relay for Life.

8.  Student passion for research is displayed in interesting and varied ways through the annual Student Scholar Showcase. I am in great admiration of students’ hard work as well as their poise and bravery in presenting to faculty/staff and peers.

7.  Where else are you encouraged to bring man and woman’s best friends to an afternoon of frolicking fun at Doggies in the Dell?

6.  Thanks to the generosity of many donors, our community now has a place of welcome and hospitality when we visit the natural magic that is Claytor and are able to stay at the soon to be dedicated Chandler Eco-Lodge. Can’t wait to try out one of those bunk beds after having slept on the floor of the education center.

5.  Always some athletic competition going on at a court or field near you – pick a sport, any sport! Softball, lacrosse, tennis, baseball, track and field, just to name a few. Go Hornets!!

4.  Recognition of students’ hard work and dedication in the classroom at the Academic Awards Banquet and Honor Society Inductions. Those long nights of study, countless papers and exams finally pay off.

3.  Recognition of students’ commitment to leadership and service both on campus and in the larger community at the Leadership Awards Ceremony. Engrave those plaques! Clap those hands!

2.  Whether helping an athlete at Special Olympics, promoting healthy hearts through the HeartChase, or salsa dancing in support of HIS vision, an eye-care non-profit for those in poverty, the Office of Community Involvement offers countless opportunities to reach out in service to others while having a blast at the same time!

1. And the Number One reason to love April at Lynchburg College – through every challenge and every change, in good times and in bad times, we remain first and foremost a community of care and a family of friends.  It really is the most wonderful time of the year!!

Peace,  Anne
