Change is all around us. October is a good example of this. October is usually the time when most areas truly begin to experience fall. Here in Lynchburg, October is when things begin to change. Leaves fall, it gets cooler, school, and sports are in full swing. Sometimes fall comes late but, we do know that it is coming. This is one change we can prepare for, mostly. Despite always knowing it will get colder and things will change, I can never say I was truly ready to experience it. They say being open to change helps you to deal with what come with the changes. When you put that in comparison to weather, it falls flat but in comparison with other life events it can work.
Many changes we experience can catch us off guard. Sometimes we see it coming and we run in the opposite direction. Despite being people who need change, we often do not want change. This makes a lot of sense. Change requires us to try something new or to be or do something we have never done before. We often do not know how to handle change and thus become stressed.
That doesn’t mean that change is bad. I may think winter is bad but it is not and most of the changes in our lives are not bad either. We think of them as inconvenient or difficult to deal with. We think of that as the change is approaching, or during the change when we are stressed, yet when it’s over the change often is a good thing.
Moving to college was a change and it brings difficulties, but for most students they will tell you that their 4 years in college were some of the best years in their lives. We are never going to grow or experience things if we don’t experience change. Change can take you to new heights and on grand adventures.
