A Forecast of Renewal
I have two friends, one 5 and one 7, who are budding meteorologists. Their snow advice this week was “wear your pajamas inside out, flush ice cubes down the toilet, and stick some spoons in the freezer.” Apparently, these things entice Mother Nature to send snow. My pajamas were not inside out. I did not flush ice cubes down the toilet, and all my spoons remained in the spoon drawer, but did I ever want snow.
I really, really, really like snow. Now, let’s be fair. I have two jobs that allow me to stay home when it snows. Unless it is absolutely necessary, I do not have to leave the house when it snows. Because of that privilege, and a well-stocked pantry, I am good and do not have to leave my home. I have a plethora of candles, and many blankets in case the power goes out. I also live in an apartment complex that provides snow shoveling, and de-icing material. Lying in bed this morning, I thought of all the things I could check off during the day. Great food. Cleaning. Wash clothes. Purge my closet. Paint my nails. Finish assignments. One of those things happened today, only one.
Part of me feels a bit guilty about my lack of productivity. I should have completed something for my doctoral project. I should have finished designing my niece’s wedding ceremony. I should have washed more clothes. I should have cleaned the bathroom. I should have written a thank you note. There are many things I should have done, but I really enjoyed not doing anything particularly productive. I feel so very refreshed, and renewed.
What did you do? Did you accomplish many things, or were you like me and simply enjoyed some good food with family? Did you play in the frozen wonderland, or stay indoors and have an adventure? Did you read a good book, or binge Netflix? Did you finish an assignment, or take time to get to know someone on your hall? Did you catch up on your sleep, or bake something scrumptious?
My hope is that however you chose to spend your day, you feel refreshed and renewed. The weather is supposed to be beautiful this week so maybe you can accomplish things you didn’t on Tuesday, or engage the rest of the week with passion and energy. Tick off that due assignment. Slay that interview. Defend that thesis. Connect with your advisor and finalize details for returning to campus in the fall. Use the rest of the week to be productive.
As you finish the week with excellence, keep in mind – pajamas worn inside out, ice cubes flushed down the toilet, and spoons placed in the freezer, is powerful magic. How do I know? Have you heard the weather forecast for this weekend?
Be blessed, Katrina
