Comet Flyby

This is a very short post about something you probably didn’t even know was happening: the flyby of Comet Hartley 2 by the Deep Impact space probe. I’m just going to point you to the best blogger on solar system astronomy I know of: Emily Lakdawalla at the Planetary Society blog. Her pictures, animations, and explanations are better than anything I could create. Be sure to pay attention to her explanation of the smooth area between the comet’s two “lobes”; I think she’s right on target. Enjoy!
